APPLE BLOSSOM
A stiff breeze rakes the topmost branches
A thousand million pink and white petals
Explode into the sky.
The petals flash and shimmer
Against the blue
Tiny explosions of light.
The breeze holds them there
Playing with them
Whirling them around
Like spring snowflakes
Until they cascade earthwards
And they strew the ground
A parachute army of ballerinas
Lying defeated across the brown battlefield
But look closely
Where they have so recently danced
A tiny hard green sphere
Speaks of harvest yet to come.
